Wild Turkey Mating In the Middle of Road!? Lookout a Car is Coming! Video Proof

July 7, 2017 by Charlie 7 Comments

More incredible video from American Wild Turkey Hunting Dog Association
This show went on for 29 minutes, the Hen telling Tom where to go! While her poults sit tight, she’s telling him he’s supposed to be a sentinel on the lookout, not trying to court her, you big dummy! The poults like to feed in the ditches, while Tom thinks the road is his strutting ground.
Turn up the speakers, what do you think she’s saying? In the next video, count how many poults are left.

It’s July 7, 2017, the turkey books say mating is done by now. Consider, this feathered lady already has thirteen kids.

There were 13 from this one hen, 2 days ago. Don’t know how they manage, between the cars, the weather and all the predators. There are a few stragglers in the bunch, so keep watching.

    JULY 7TH!
    Gadzooks!
The poults down here in Oklahoma must weigh 3 or 4 pounds each by now!
It’s hard to comprehend birds still strutting and breeding!
Quail sometimes hatch twice down here if conditions are favorable.
Is it possible that turkeys could do the same in Wisconsin?

I have found featherless poults as late as August in Wisconsin. The understanding and the turkey literature says they only mate once. However, I have, on multiple occasions heard gobbling in the mornings along with seeing strutters through August. The problem is no one has believed me without any pics or video. Now Jon has documented it and in the middle of a friggin ROAD! Just down right incredible. Plus she’s got thirteen poults in the ditch watching the show!!!

Once the season closes here (May 6th), the ticks, chiggers and other unsavory critters are in such grand abundance, I don’t go out.

I figure the Turkey can breed whenever it wants. There’s just times when it is going to be successful (with a chance for poults to happen) or not. Who is to say if these birds can have multiple clutches… Can’t see why not?

I can see how if those two got a room (by room I really mean off the road) they’d have a much easier time of it! lol

    Enjoying these videos!

      – Don’t forget…some animals like deer have died due to exhaustion chasing females in heat. I think some turkeys would walk into a fire if there was a call from inside of it.
-I’m guilty of hitting on girls in the wrong locations as well. When I was younger one of my ex’s fathers even decided to “show” me his gun collection one night. The ex title came very soon after. Learned a very valuable lesson that night…never make a move on a girl in front of her dad inside his house(yes, I was a dumb kid).

Nature dictates when “wild” animals reproduce.
Mother Nature, being the harsh mistress she is, allows all rules to be broken.
I never doubt what Mother Nature allows to happen…but sometimes I just have to sit back in “awe” at what occurs!

Ha, I got a kick out of that tom shock-gobbling at the car horn. Then he turns right around and walks back toward the road! And some people think gobblers are hard to kill because they’re so smart… As JM can attest, all living creatures are dumb when they have love on the brain. LOL
